HISTORY

The Energypath event started with a desire to increase the knowledge of and passion for sustainable energy in the leaders of today and tomorrow. Originally, known as Solar Scholars®, the event has grown from the Sustainable Energy Fund providing a single grant for one person to attend a solar training workshop in Colorado to multiple events with more than 60 speakers and 600 attendees. Solar Scholars® focused on providing hands-on training for college students and professors on solar photovoltaic installation.

In 2009, Energypath was opened to those outside the academic community, added an exposition and began providing scholarships to dislocated workers, middle school and high school teachers. A middle school and high school science fair was added to Energypath in 2011.

To date Sustainable Energy Fund has provided more than one million dollars in scholarships to dislocated workers, middle school and high school teachers, college students and professors. In addition, Sustainable Energy Fund provided grants to 20 of Pennsylvania’s institutions of higher education to install solar arrays for educational purposes and is currently funding a portion of a multi-university solar research project focused on increasing energy density and tracking.

Energypath has hosted leading industry, academic and policy experts including; globally renowned energy expert, consultant, advisor, and trainer, Eric Woodroof; Former Pennsylvania Governor, Ed Rendell; Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner, Nora Mead Brownell; United Nations Industrial Development Organization Director, George Assaf; Congressman, Joe Sestak; New York Times best-selling author and TED Presenter, William Kamkwamba; author and radio talk show host, Jim Motovalli; author of the PA Solar Handbook, Vera Cole PhD; public advocates, Eric Epstein, Tyson Solcum and many more.
